Reconciling voices in writing an autoethnographic thesis
get it's writing about yourself, but what if you don't have anything interesting to say? Crafting the words that fully realize my story takes much longer than any traditional research essay I have written. I am, of course, aware of the mantra "do not feed the troll"the implication being those who engage in trolling live off getting a response or rise. If sharing my story helps to bring this issue to the fore and encourages others to speak about their experiences, it will be worth the inevitable "e-bile" (ibid.) I may receive as a result. Ellis (2004) draws on artifacts from her past to evidence this. Not all of the Twitter users posting negative tweets about autoethnography could rightly be described as trolls.

I write about how I came to hear the word autoethnography in a chance conversation with my research mentor in our shared corridor at work. Most of the tweets in front of me are concerned with academic practice, on way or another. I open my laptop, click on the Google icon and problem statements for research papers then the Twitter shortcut at the top. Autoethnography does require you to turn "the ethnographic lens" on yourself (O'reilly, 2012,.130). I'm editing a PowerPoint presentation called "What's the story, autoethnography?" There's a staff research seminar coming up soon, and I'm going to talk about my chosen methodology publicly, in open forum, to my colleagues for the first time. Individuals I do not know, and cannot identify, encourage their followers to scrutinize my Twitter account.
